I do not know how this place has been in my backyard for two years and I did not try it sooner! I am absolutely OBSESSED!
I went to eat brunch with my sister on a Saturday at around 3:00. There were not a lot of people in there. The cafe is cute and casual. There were fresh flowers on the table. The French decor provides a certain "charm."
First off, the brunch options come with a complimentary cocktail so they already had me sold. I had a bloody mary and we split a cheese plate. I ordered the smoked salmon and avocado toast. BEST SALMON/AVOCADO TOAST I HAVE EVER HAD. I used to think Happy Gillis had the best salmon toast in Kansas City but this was the best I have had anywhere in the country! It also came with a nice arugula salad and was more food than I could eat (I think I filled up on the cheese). My sister ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes which were amazing. Soon, we rolled right into 4:00 and it was happy hour so we had a glass of wine at half price.
Now here is where we think the wait staff might think we are crazy. We left after brunch but ended up wandering back in after 10:00 where they have reverse happy hour! We split a carafe of rose and ordered some frites which were also excellent!
And as if we could not get enough of the place we had dinner three days later because we learned that Tuesday nights they have a special of steak and frites for $15. It was amazing and I was pleased that their medium rare was a true medium rare. We also ordered the French treat of the moment which was a chocolate mousse with pears and some kind of almond pastry. Delicious! I had an Irish coffee to top everything off and it was also prepared perfectly.
I am maybe a little obsessed with this place and since I can literally walk there from where I live, it will definitely become my go-to place. The food is great, I love the vibe, and the prices are extremely moderate for the quality of food and drink. But I am just an average American girl...my neighbors are from the southwest of France and I am curious to see what their thoughts are on this place... -

Judging by the name, you would have no idea that this was a French bistro-esque establishment.
Came here for brunch on a Sunday. As the French say,
"Je ai été impressionné" (aka I was impressed ). The brunch items come with one complimentary drink (a mimosa, bellini, margarita, juice or coffee). I got the bellini, which was just the right pick me up for afternoon brunch.
For food I got the chicken confit hash with poached eggs in a creamy tomato sauce. It was actually a lot of food: the hash was a bit on the saltier side, but eating it with the tomato sauce balanced it out.
Overall, I had a lovely experience, and will be back soon to check out their other menus including dinner & reverse happy hour. -

Westport Cafe is a perfect French fusion cafe. It starts with the romantic interior; brilliant white tile on one wall, contrasted with exterior brick on the parallel wall, appropriately lit long interior, with cute cafe tables and chairs that are sized and spaced to comfortably accommodate guests and the service. It also has an interesting bar, and always great bartenders.
Front and bar seating with a large window overlooking the street for people watching and shared conversation, with more intimate seating and conversation to the rear of the cafe.
The staff are all unique and interesting in a good way. Friendly smiles, they introduce themselves, and welcome you to the venue. Head of House is a treat.
The Chef and line continue to serve up excellent, consistent and interesting dishes. I always appreciate a venue that does not overly complicate the menu, so the line can focus and perfect those offerings. And WC&B does tweak the menu often enough, but keeps the tried and true favorites that are a delight no matter how many times you order.
KCMO has plenty of opportunities for excellent food and service, and of those, WC&B is my favorite and has been for several years.
WC&B has the best Pommes Frites in the city (and you don't have to ask for mayonnaise). One order is a "just right" shareable for 4 guests.
Also, speaking of frites, the Steak Frites is gorgeous, with yummy compound butter and Bearnaise.
Last night, the chef's special was his twist on Fish and "chips" (fingerlings prepared confit style). Cod lightly breaded, crispy outside, flaky yummy filet, with tartar sauce providing a spicy pickle hit.
Other selections at the table last night of Seafood Fettuccine, lamb Meatball Pappardelle, and the Pea Ravioli were all excellent. WC&B serves up sophisticated pastas that are beautifully sauced, with the pasta thin, tender and al dente, with lovely plating (as alway).
WC&B has recently added a new feature of a rotating chef's choice dessert "French Treat of the Moment." All desserts are made in house, and last night the lemon tart was a culinary party. It was a "tart" tart (I prefer my desserts on the less sweet side, and this hit that mark). The curd was yummy and very lemony, garnished with lemon and lime zest for a fresh citrus hit, in a thin, delicate, crunchy, cracker crust.
And, if you have not been to WC&B for brunch, well, that is just tragic.
Thank you Kevin, Nicolas, Chefs Romaine and David, and of course the hardworking line and staff. See you soon. -

OMG...the brunch here! Probably the BEST brunch experience I've ever had! Outstanding food and service! Tip, make weekend reservations to save some time!
Apple fritters are to die for!
Biscuits and gravy are fantastic...large portion!
Delicious brunch burger-fries served with are basic-maybe select salad
The brunch entree with fried chicken and gravy is like an explosion in your mouth! A bit messy and difficult to eat as a disclaimer, so difficult it made me take a pass to select something else.
Incredible experience, so glad we checked this place out! -

My first time at Westport Cafe & Bar was lovely! The service was incredible and the waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu and could describe, in detail, each brunch dish.
Brunch is a great deal because it includes one complimentary Bellini, Mimosa, Bloody Mary, Coffee, or Soft drink with your entree.
I went with the salmon & avocado toast with a side arugula salad. The salmon was smoked and had a great flavor. It's a huge meal and if you're wanting something that's fresh and not super heavy, this is a great option.
